A sparkling set of teeth is what we all crave for, and we take all the precautionary measures to maintain a set of pearly white teeth. Despite doing so, stains on teeth are frequent and it is not a good sight. The first step you should take is to head for a dentist  for the various cosmetic dental treatments you can choose from.

Types of cosmetic dental treatments available:

  1. Teeth whitening

If you are keen to flaunt an attractive smile and benefit from affordable treatment, teeth whitening is a good option to choose.  The procedure is done on dentist’s chair and two common procedures can be performed – Vital Whitening and Non Vital Whitening:

Vital Whitening:

It is the most common type of tooth whitening procedure, Here a gel containing hydrogen peroxide is directly applied to tooth surface. The bleaching happens through application of specialized light laser that hasten the bleaching process. If a patient has decided to go for the Vital Whitening procedure, the treatment usually lasts 30 to 90 minutes.

Non Vital Whitening:

Non Vital Whitening treatment is used to whiten teeth in  patients who have undergone a root canal treatment. (during root canal treatment the teeth may turn a darker shade). The dentist will apply a whitening agent inside the tooth and a temporary filling is placed on top of it.

Teeth whitening procedures can be done at home as well. Commonly used methods are teeth whitening gels, teeth whitening strips, teeth whitening toothpastes and teeth whitening bleaching agents.

  1. Porcelain and composite veneers

Porcelain and composite veneers are used to replace tooth enamel. Veneer is a tooth-shaped, hard, tooth-colored material lined with thin shells commonly used for masking imperfection such as stains, chipping and abrasions on the front teeth.

  1. Tooth colored fillings

In recent times, the field of cosmetic dentistry has advanced tremendously. Earlier when a patient had a tooth filling, it would be visible and aesthetically unappealing. However, now tooth-colored fillings are almost transparent and blend with the surrounding tooth material. There are various types of tooth-colored fillings available, namely composite fillings, porcelain fillings and glass ionomer fillings.

  1. Cosmetic gum surgery

It is a kind of surgery that involves reshaping of gum tissue in a way that it increases the attractiveness of jaw structure.

  1. Clear orthodontic aligners or Invisalign

Invisalign is a modern approach to teeth straightening compared to the traditional braces. It is virtually invisible and hence preferred by adults and teenagers. The aligner trays are made of comfortable and smooth plastic that sits well over your teeth. The reason why people are more comfortable wearing Invisalign is  that there are no wires and metal brackets which usually look ugly! You can flaunt a smile without the discomfort of being noticed.
