These objects come straight off your kitchen shelves and give you a sparkling white smile without making a dent in your wallet!
- Banana peel
Why? – Banana peel contains essential minerals like potassium, manganese and magnesium that penetrate into the teeth and help to whiten them.
How?– Before throwing the peel, rub them on your teeth for two minutes and brush your teeth 15 minutes later. Repeat this ritual twice or thrice a week and see the difference!
- Strawberries
Why?– Firstly, strawberries are a rich source of Vitamin C which helps breakdown plaque. Secondly, they contain a natural enzyme called malic acid which helps to remove surface stains.Thirdly, the fibre found in strawberries act as a natural cleanser and helps remove bacteria.
How?– Simply mash strawberries with a pinch of salt and apply it on your teeth with a soft toothbrush and leave it on for a minute. Don’t forget to floss your teeth afterwards for the tiny seeds in these berries that may get lodged between your teeth.
- Lemon peel and juice
Why?– The high acid level in the peel of lemon or other citrus fruits such as pineapples and oranges can work as a powerful whitener or bleaching agent.
How?– Rub the lemon peel or apply its juice to the teeth. Or mix equal amounts of lemon juice and water and rub on your teeth. However, do not use lemon more than twice a week.
- Baking soda
Why?– Baking soda or sodium bicarbonate is an excellent acid neutralizer and is mildly abrasive (this helps to remove surface stains).
How?– Mix a pinch of salt with baking soda and prepare a paste by adding some water. Apply this to your teeth and leave it for two minutes and then rinse out your mouth well. Do this once or twice a week at the max and don’t overdo it.
- Hydrogen peroxide
Why?– This chemical substance is a powerful bleaching agent that has been declared safe to use as a teeth whitener by the ADA. This is already an important ingredient in toothpastes, mouthwashes and disinfectants.
How?– Just make a solution with equal parts hydrogen peroxide and water and rinse your mouth with this solution.
These simple inexpensive remedies will not only make you feel better about yourself but will also brighten your teeth considerably!
